Rocking Bassinet

My wife and I are having our first child soon so I decided to make a rocking bassinet. I spent a lot of time looking at various designs for inspiration. The bassinet is made of white oak with walnut spindles. It is designed around and made to hold a 32" x 16" bassinet mattress. All of the rails are joined using dowels and glue. The walnut spindles are 1/2" in diameter and are spaced 2.125" apart.

The rockers run the length of the bassinet. I went back and forth with the design trying to figure out if the rockers should run along the short side or the long side. I went with the long side with the thought that the bassinet could be moved closer to our bed and still rock nicely.

The bassinet is finished with 2 coats of  Mahoney's walnut oil. This is a natural and food safe finish which I feel is perfect for this application. There is still a nice wood feel to the bassinet and it can be refinished at any time in the future.
