Edges

The original idea for this box came from one of my first proper woodworking projects that wasn't a bandsaw box. It was a heavy, solid walnut box with three drawers: two live edge and one hidden. I've since rebuilt it a few times with different styles. Most recently I used some quartersawn walnut pieces that still had live edge on one side. The concept is pretty simple but it takes a bit of fiddling to get it right. Having the live edges facing in leaves a gap where the drawer box can't go. For this reason, I needed to find a way to cover that up.

Above are the multiple versions of this design. The box in the middle is the first iteration and probably one of my favorite pieces I've made so far. I was still pretty "green" as a woodworker and learned a lot along the way.
